The Track: Caulfield is a tight turning circuit, on pace runners are often favoured at short & middle distance races.
Caulfield Cup Track Bias, Barriers: The 2400m begins in the home straight in front of the grandstand, runners complete a full circuit of the course enabling most to have their chance. In previous years the rail was usually out 6m after two days of racing at Caulfield (Caulfield Guineas & Blue Sapphire) in the same week, if the rail remains True having been moved out for the Wednesday meeting we might see a fast track of best ground 2 or 3 off the inside rail. The majority of winners in the modern era have been weighted in the bottom half of the field but with an increasing number of imported stayers being entered into the race class has become a more significant factor than weight in determining the winner.
