Situated on the edge of the famous Barossa Valley wine area, run by the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club with the course and amenities having undergone considerable improvements completed in 2010. It also has its own railway station giving easy access from Adelaide and is a popular function centre as well as hosting 14 midweek meetings a year as well as 2 Sunday meetings one being the Gawler Cup.
The track has a circumference of around 1840 metres and also has sand and grass training tracks inside it. It has a 300m front (final) straight and a shorter back straight connected by a long final corner, with a tight corner linking the front straight to an angled straight then to a flat corner into the back. The track tends to favour on pacers drawn in.
