About Gold Coast racetrack:
Circumference is 1885 metres, length of the home straight is 400 metres. Horses race in a clockwise direction.
Characteristics: an even course with four long corners. Front runners have an advantage although it is possible to make up ground in staying events. There is an inner track at the Gold Coast, races similar to the outside track but on pace runners have an even bigger advantage.
Gold Coast Barriers Starting Positions:
1000m: Begins in the chute at the back of the course. Runners are on a turn until the reach the home straight. Inside barriers are a distinct advantage.
1200m: Located in a chute in the middle of the back straight. Short straight run before the first turn, inside barrers have a big advantage.
1300m & 1400m: Begins on the course proper at the back of the course. Straight run before the first turn, inside barriers have a slight advantage.
1800m: Begins in a small chute off the course proper just after the winning post. Barriers are of little importance.
2200m & 2400m: Located in the home straight, runners have a long straight run before the first turn. Barriers are of no importance.
