Barriers Info & Starting Positions:
Feature race day is Ipswich Cup Day, a standalone event with the other Brisbane race clubs taking a day off to ensure everyone's full attention.
The course has a circumference of approx. 1750 metres and is a tight turning track. It has a final straight of about 300m leading into a tight corner past the winning post and then another short straight (at right angles) leading into a somewhat irregular but very long curving section which goes all the way round to the last turn into the final straight.
Chutes help to cut down the on pace bias of the shorter races and horses can make ground coming around the “Long Corner” if good enough, but the 2150m (Ipswich Cup) to 2500m races are generally won by leaders or on pacers, on what is to them an almost circular track.
