About Mt Gambier Racetrack.
Barriers Info & Starting Positions:
Operated by the Mt Gambier Race Club and locally referred to as the Glenburnie Racecourse it is about 400km South of Adelaide in the Limestone Coast region.
The course has a circumference of 1850m laid out almost in an oblong shape, with a long back straight, 2 short side straights and the unique ‘Dogleg’ final (front) straight which is 400m long but takes a slight left turn 200m before the winning post. If you count the dogleg there are 5 turns but the addition of chutes and the length of the straights counter the tendency to a leader bias. The 1100m start can be tricky as it leads into the corner off the back straight and horses drawn wide tend to go back and have a hard job catching up in the final straight. Otherwise, generally a fair track.
